A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (23 May 2006):

DrPsych agony auntHowever hurtful it may feel at the moment you have to remember that your wife is under the influence of the depression, and with treatment it can pass by and she can get back to herself. However, she needs professional help for this all too common problem as post-natal depression can affect bonding with the baby as much as the marital relationship. Don't be too hard on her at the moment as she may come to her senses if she gets treatment.
