My nipples have become hard and sore, i've never had sex so definitely not pregnant and period not due for another 3 weeks, does anyone get this from time to time which goes away or does it sound like something to get checked out?

New underwear? New detergent? Maybe you've developed allergies?
Just because you've never had sore nipples before doesn't mean you can't start experiencing them in connection with your cycle at a later point in life. Your body isn't "set in stone" you know, you are a live organism that changes every day. Maybe you didn't experience this earlier, but that's not to say you wont experience it later.

I dance a lot so it could be that hopefully it'll go away after a couple of days, thanks again :)

Depends on what you mean by "hard and sore". Are they bleeding? Shedding skin? Are they read and swollen? Or are they just sensitive?
Probably you've been bouncing around for too much with a bra/top on that has hurt your nipples due to friction.
I once had blood coming out of my nipple. It turned out to be the odd case of a pimple right on my nipple (never had that happen before) that broke. It freaked me out, but was harmless. So just saying... unless it's been going on for some weeks you should give it time and see if it doesn't just disappear by itself.
And yes, like everyone else said, this could also probably be because of your cycle. Wait until your period is over and see how things go.

your cycle might be changing and you may get your period in one or two weeks.
are you having any sexual play? that can cause sore nipples.
and as shrodingerscat said you may have "joggers nipples although that tends to happen more to men since they don't wear bras all the time....
if it continues a visit to the gyn is in order.

Believe it or not but sore nipples, tender breasts are a sign of your menstrual cycle coming.
