My girfriend just broke up with me because she said I seem to want to be her best friend instead of her boyfriend. I'm lost at what to do because she doesn't think it will be different in the future.

I love this girl with all my heart. What can I say to her to make her feel special and make her see how much I do love her?

A reader, anonymous, writes (31 May 2005):

Hey,

Sounds like maybe you don't pay her enough loving attention, although you're still good to her. Girls like to feel special, so things like little presents, cards, sentimental stuff and making love all make the difference between just friends and a boyfriend.

Do you spend enough time with her? Do you show her you love her by being thoughtful?

Maybe you could explain to her how much you love her, and get her to tell you what's missing for her so that you can fill the gap in your relationship, maybe start by taking her a card which says how much you love her and some flowers or something else she'll like, and then have a chat about it?

Hope this is some help, and good luck.
