reader, anonymous, writes (28 February 2006): My word, she seems like she needs help. And I don't just mean a loving support from your friend but a professional one too. Self harming could be a result of several things; attracting attention, feeling the need for control... If anything she should get counselling or therapy to try and establish where these jealousy and self harm is coming from and find another way of releasing her anxiety.There's only so much your friend could do other than be calm, be there to help her and not to get upset or angry whenever she starts hurting herself. I cannot stress how much she needs professional help right now. This is to help her both short and long term. Good luck and hope thing get sorted for her and your friend!
