writes: heres a question, my friends son hes 13 yrs old, canadian citizen. but at 19 months he was sent to states where he was placed into legal custody with grandmother but u.s border patrol claim hes illegal citizen but lawyer says its a messed up case because the case went thru a court and it went thru legal proceedings etc. she wants her son back. is he illegal no matter what? or is a case that she might not win because the family will fight her hand and foot... dad was killed and the family is from saudi arabia... anyone out there with knowledge on american laws? thanks.

She needs to hire an international lawyer. About 15 yrs ago, the US went through a lot of policy changes regarding citizenship with minors from Canada. It is a huge mess, and the laws today won't apply to her case.
She needs to seek legal counsel and representation if she wants her son back.
