She is my best friend and has told me lots of things (like about counselling and things she wouldn't tell others) but when she's down she never tells me why! I feel like its me upsetting her but she denies that but won't say what it actually is that is bothering her! She trusts me and I trust her so I would have thought she could tell me what is up! Every time she doesn't tell me it makes me hurt inside! Help?

reader, anonymous, writes (18 July 2012): it's not that she doesn't trust you, but when someone has depression it makes them just want to be alone.
not everyone wants to reveal what's truly on their minds, because a lot of times it's too painful to talk about it even to their best friend.
so don't take it the wrong way, it has nothing to do with you.
just let her know that if she wants to talk, you'll be there and you wont' tell anyone else. But if she doesn't want to talk, then don't push her or it will make her uncomfortable and want to withdraw even more.
