writes: My fiance shocked me yesterday with his revelation.He said "Sit down, we have something WE NEED to talk about!"Me and him got engaged 2 years ago, and set a date for April 2010.I asked him what it was, and he admitted he wanted us to get married by civil partnership rather than a conventional wedding.I asked him why he wanted this, and he said it would still be a wedding, just it could be more fun than a normal wedding, and easier to organize too.Civil partnerships? - aren't they for same-sex couples only, not heterosexual couples?I don't get where he's coming from with this but I do know why, as mentioned above.I'm sure these can't be done for heterosexual couples and don't understand why he's doing this. Talking did help, but only a bit.This is stressing me out for what should be an enjoyable time - my engagement.What should I do? Please help me.

If you want the ceremony in the church then he has to meet you half way.If you're also saying he doesn't want to incur the expense of a reception then you have to address your budget and see how it can be realized if you are really into it.

reader, anonymous, writes (7 September 2009): Sounds more like he means a registry office marriage, not a civil-partnership - which is for same sex couples only in most places (France breaks this rule).
