Question - (6 October 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 6 October 2010)
A female Canada age 30-35, anonymous writes:

i am an 18 year old girl..i've always liked older men...my last boyfriend and i were 10 years apart..the man i am in love with now is 30 years old, we have been together for almost six months, my family don't know but have already voiced their opinion that they would disapprove due to the age difference. i find this hypocritical as my parents have a 16 year age difference between them. i'm not quite sure what to do as i would love to share that happiness that i feel with my family but i know that they would only disapprove and say that the only thing that men from me is sex and yell at me for being "stupid" and "naive".

i have recently moved away, leaving my man back in europe.

i am now living with my father and an uncle, both of which are excessively controlling and possessive. if they see me even remotely having a good conversation with an older man, or any man for that matter, they assume that he is trying to take advantage of me and consequently that i would let him. i'm not quite sure how much more i can take of this..can someone help me to deal?

You need to have a heart to heart with them. Just tell them the truth that you're going to date some man and you would like it to be your choice. I would ask whom there saving you for? Don't worry about the age but do worry how you're treated.
