However, there are many alternatives to meds and given your age, you should explore them. Personally, I had crazy anxiety to the point where I could not breath. I went for Kinesiology. Please try it? It worked wonders for me and I haven't had an anxiety attack for over 3 years. I had to go quite a few times but its a natural healing method that changed my life. When I start to feel stressed now, I do yoga. I bought a home DVD and do this for about 30 mins in the morning or in the evening if I feel I have alot to deal with that may stress me. Please try alternatives. Meds don't DEAL with the prob from the source, they just mask it. I hope you find a solution. Good luck... really I feel your pain! xx

Anxiety medications are not recommended for teenagers, they can make you feel even worst. Swimming and yoga are good, try these methods, and go back to your doctor and see if he has any other suggestions to help you. Maybe going to a counsellor and trying "cognative behaviour therapy" might help. It teaches you to retrain your thinking, learn to be brave and stop worrying about things.

I know how it feels, and I can't even bare thinking about not taking the Zoloft that my doctor prescribed for me. I would think about finding a new doctor. If it is that bad, they should put you on something. My personal opinion: Zoloft, but ask your doctor, or new doctor, about it first. I take it along with eating better and exercising, and it helps like you wouldn't believe. I look at it like this: If your child has diabetes, wouldn't you give them insulin? Or just sit there and make them suffer?
People will keep telling you that you shouldn't take meds for this, but with all of the hereditary mishaps that have happened to humans over the years, the only logical thing to do is try and help it by balancing out the chemicals in your brain.
I hope this helps. :) Good luck. I know you figure out a way to get through this obstacle. :)

What have you tried? Have you tried yoga yet? There are some great breathing techniques and the meditation aspects of it can be very effective in battling anxiety.
My sister is recovering from treatment for breast cancer and had really debilitating anxiety attacks right after her diagnosis and at times during the treatment. She finally had to go off her medications for medical reasons and is using yoga and some biofeedback methods to combat her panic attacks.
It's not a nice place to be, and I feel for you.
The biofeedback method is a way to marry breathing and your heart rhythms. You focus on getting those two in congruity and that focusing keeps your mind engaged in a way that relaxes you. There are devices you can purchase that will help. My sister uses one that clips to her ear and through breathing consciously, gets the lights on it into a certain alignment. I've used it and it's very soothing.
Do you exercise? That's another wonderful way to relieve anxiety too.
Take care.
