A female reader, Scarlet +, writes (4 November 2006):

Scarlet agony auntMaybe you should have a chat with your dad, on a one to one, and tell him exactly how you feel about this guy. Ask him if you can all go out for a meal together or a drink or even invite him around for tea, and then he will have chance to get to know him a little better and then he can decide whether he is good enough for his daughter.

It is difficult with dads and daughters, because they always want the best for their daughter, but maybe if you get them to chat in a relaxed situation, like going for a meal or in a pub, and you could even help them out while you are all there by starting conversations about things you know they would both be interested in, he might see the side to your guy that you love and that he couldn't see before.

I hope this helps and take care.
