reader, anonymous, writes (14 June 2010): What you're feeling is a crush. I know it can be pretty intense and it's hard to listen to common sense when you find out your crush likes you back, but dating this guy is a bad idea. It's not the age difference that is the problem. It's what he said. Saying "I love you" to a potential boyfriend or girlfriend before you've even started dating, before the first kiss, before the first private conversation, is a HUGE RED FLAG that something is wrong with this guy. That is extremely abnormal. It's a sign of psychological disturbance. Attachments as intimate as love shouldn't be formed without the events I listed earlier. This kind of behavior is one of the most serious warnings a person can give you that they are mentally imbalanced.Read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codependency for some information on one possible issue this guy may be demonstrating with his disturbingly sudden intensity of attraction.I also recommend that you talk to someone you trust who has dated a few guys (maybe someone the same age as your crush). Talk to them about what it can mean when a guy tells you he loves you way too early (like before a first date).
