My brother-in-law is in prison for child molestation! Could he have been molested? Does this mean my husband was molested, too?

Hi, I have been married 3 months. My husband's brother was just convicted of molesting boys ages 12-14. He started doing this when he was 20.

I am really struggling w/this. I am glad he is in prison even though my husband and his family are grieving.

I have heard that child molesters were often molested themselves. Is this true?? If his brother was molested could my husband have been as well??

What are some warning signs of past molestation?

A female reader, anonymous, writes (20 April 2008):

My brother was sentenced to prison on Friday for child molestation.

Many child molsters were molested as children (my brother was, too), but not all. It's true that there is no excuse for what he did, but it is a sickness and an addiction, too.

leanne.od agony auntthere is a possibilty but there is no excuse for it. your brother-in-law can try all he wants to blame his actions on it happening to him, but he can't excuse what he's done.

if it has happened to your husband, until he feels able to talk about it or admit anything, don't force the issue or convince him of this.

he will confide when the time is right for him.
