 My birthday is in December too. I hate the cold outdoors and I'm not a basketball fan. But there are still great things to do in December.
Concerts. Schools and local performing groups pull out the stops during the holiday season. So choral orchestra or band music will be around, also look for live theater. If not in your home town look at near by cities and universities.
Christmas light tours. The helicopter pilot school near me offers Ariel tours as well. A bit pricy but hey you were looking for something different.
While we are talking about pricy ideas, I know people who head for the Mexican resorts that time of year.
For some reason I end up going some where, then shopping.
So, think about what is fun to you, then find an interesting place to do it.
