Sources of L-Arginine are most nuts and some other foods. L-Lysine, on the other hand, suppresses the herpes virus. In the US, L-Lysine tablets are readily available and inexpensive. I get them at Wal-Mart. You need to take 1500 mg of L-Lysine a day if you do not eat nuts like walnuts, almonds or peanuts. Those are the worst. I never get a cold sore if I do this. If I eat a handful of nuts then I take a couple more 500 mg tablets. If I feel that cold sore tingle then I take 2500 mg for a couple of days and that keeps me from getting a cold sore.
A couple of months ago I ate too many peanuts and chocolate (that aggravates them for me too) and I started to get a small blister. Normally that would expand to many. However, I took about 3000 mg of L-Lysine for 3 or 4 days and the blister was gone. This is what has worked the best for me to keep cold sores away.
Just as a side note, both Type 1 and Type 2 herpes can be either oral or genital. Oral Type 2 is very rare, but genital can be both, but Type 2 is more normal.

Ok...2 remedies depending on the coldsore itself.1) If its just a lump (only forming) then you should cover it up with zovirax!! Every hour cover the whole surface of it.2) If its after breaking out into a scabby bloody mess then you should try talcum powder. Seriously!!!!!The plain old johnsons baby powder is what i use. Its brilliant...id swear by it.Dries it up really fast and it will fall off in bits. No picking though. If you put on a cream when its already broken out it just makes it wetter, bloodier and you'll be forever waitin for it to go! What it needs is to DRY OUT. Trust me this works and is the fastest way!
