Then my other daughter (who's 13) came to me saying something was wrong with the dog. Long story short our dog end up being put to sleep my wife (she a vet). "Lauren" thinks its her fault for what happen to the dog. She was crying in her room and wouldn't come out. What should I do Reply to this Question Share |

It's a hard lesson to learn, but she needs to understand (in as NICE a way as possible) that she REALLY should have listened to you when you said not to feed the dog human food, especially chocolate.

Well it is her fault. She was told to stop and she didn't.
Whether she was told in a strong enough "DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN! YOU ARE HURTING THE DOG AND THAT IS VERY NAUGHTY." way is another question.
Why did she have access to chocolate when she kept giving it to the dog? Why didn't you take it off her?
As a parent then you should have made her stop doing it, so you are as much to blame as the kid. But it is her fault and I don't think you should lie and tell her it's not. Just tell her that you know she is sorry and that she should never EVER do anything that you tell her to stop doing again.
As for whether to replace the dog or not and how and when, that's up to you as a parent. I'd not have another dog for a while though until your daughter is old enough to be responsible around animals.
Good Luck!! xx
