A male Australia age 26-29, anonymous writes:

Hey guys, this is the first time I've written one.

Have you ever found that your love life, or your friend's, seem like something out of a movie? Or maybe a date idea was like one you've seen in some really bad 80's film you seen before? And you start thinking you're being a corny, hopeless romantic. Want to know why? Its because our love lives are increasingly becoming like the movies we watch. We get influenced by these films, and soon, we start acting like the characters in them, and soon we start using their lines and ideas. And this shapes a relationship, to seem like something in a movie.

I myself had a problem like this, and at the end, I realized that my experience reminded me of the movie: '(500) Days of Summer'.

While I'm definitely not as good looking as Mr. Gordon Levitt, my experiences did feel like the movie, just a teenaged version.

This crazy beautiful girl comes into my life. We slowly get to know each other. Soon enough we're like best friends, just with slight inkling of something more always lingering around the corner.

We even had a moment where we talked about each other's dreams.

Music was a big part of our relationship, we shared a favorite spot with each other in our city. We walked through the city, and found ourselves admiring beautiful architecture at midnight.

A lot of the things were straight out of '(500) Days of Summer', with maybe the slightest variation.

And it was to no surprise when I found out it was one of her favorite films of all time.

And at the end of those amazing months, something changed, and her whole idea of being just friends, and all the stuff we did not meaning anything, put me into a hateful few months. Hell I even had a little sister figure who played soccer to give me the tough love that I needed.

So, what does this tell us?

Movies, widespread and successful ones especially, have this extraordinary ability nowadays to shape our love lives. Not just because it influences you, but your girlfriend/boyfriend etc. just because it is so widespread.

So next time you feel like your love life is repeating a movie script, don't think you're a weirdo. It's just how our life has become.
