Might he read too much into a friendly hug?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

hey cupid, its time to work your magic!

so today (or yesterday whenever you are reading this) i went to hang out with a long-time male friend of mine. we've been friends for about two years now and i really enjoy hanging out with him and feel comfortable talking to him.

here's the problem:

as we were saying goodbye after hanging out, we hugged (as friends do), only when i hug people (as i dont do it often) i like it to mean something and last longer than a few measley seconds. now before you jump to conclusions, i DO NOT fancy this guy, i've made it a personal rule not to date friends as i fell that i'd rather have a friendship with a friend than risk losing it by going out with them. i'm weird i know :). so anyways, we hugged, but it lasted longer than it should have i feel.

now this boy has a girlfriend. and i am seriously hoping to god he isn't 'falling for me,' for lack of a better expression....

and as i was walking home, i thought, what if he does like me? what do i do? will it forever be awkward between us?

and that's where you come in cupid. please help.

Am i in danger of inadvertedly wooing one of my best friends a causing them pain? or am i just overreacting and over thinking things?

thanks again

X
