Long distance? what is truly happening? Is he just trying to break up?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend and I have been together for two years now and I love him more that I ever thought I could possibly have feelings for another person.

During the two years, he was deployed for 9 months and now has moved back home for the last 5 months, so the majority of our relationship has been long distance. Because of the long distance, a lot of stress has been created between us.

Now we are at the point where he wants time and space from me, but doesn't say we are broken up. So what is really going on? Is there a chance of us working out or is this time and space a way to get out of it all?
