Question - (14 March 2009) 5 Answers - (Newest, 14 March 2009)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I'm single and haven't had sex in over six years and when I do, I want to be nice and tight. I started doing kegel exercises last month and would like to know how many I should do a day? I also want to know from those who do them, if they really work?

And lastly, when I start having sex do I have to continue doing them?

Thanks a bunch.

A female reader, cry United States +, writes (14 March 2009):

cry agony aunti started doing kegel exercises when i was pregnant. It helps tighten the muscles. It said so in the baby book i still have. The book it says it helps control urination and the contraction of the vagina and sphincter. It also helps with sexual satisfaction by squeezing his penis during sex. Tense those muscles around your vagina and anus. Hold as if u were trying to stop from peeing. Working up to 10 seconds slowly release and repeat. Shoot for 3 sets of 20 a day.

Good Girl agony auntYES,YES,YES Kegal exercises are so great for anyone who uses that thang down there. (If done properly they even prevent incontinence when you ate older) OK, maybe that was tmi. I've been doing them for years. Not only do they tighten your muscles, but they give you more control. With enough practice you could even accomplish the magical Queen of Heaven posture (see Kama Sutra) that will make any man in your life yours forever. I'm serious. Keep it up!

A male reader, DoubleM United States +, writes (14 March 2009):

DoubleM agony auntAt your age, you should not likely be so concerned about any lack of vaginal tightness, especially without penetration the last six years. But of course, Kegel exercises work for both men and women throughout life. Once the pubic muscles are developed, and thence utilized during encounters, men can better control and/or delay ejaculation. Women can typically squeeze their vaginal muscles more firmly around a man's erection in synch with his withdrawals during intercourse. The sensation and sensitivity is great for both partners.

Keigle exercises do work. Most doctors suggest doing them 3 times a day, and to hold the positions for varying lengths of time. Like any other muscle building exercise, the more sets and reps you do the better.

I do them at work, no one can tell, and they really do improve your sex life - for both you and your partner.

You should continue to do them even after you start having sex, because once you stop any progress you have made will disappear.

Also, they help if and when you decide to have kids. Your muscles down there will be able to go back to their previous state that much sooner. Most OBGYN's in Europe actually suggest that their patients do these exercises regularly. They will also help later on when you are older when it comes to incontinence etc.

Good luck!
