It is very very very frustrating to be out of work and rejected by employeers. Men are defined by their work. Thats the way it is.

What he might need is a professional to review his resume, approach and tactics. There are a number of consultants out there who will do this, fixing problems he might not even know he has.

Strategically: Get professional advice on his approach, the job market and his chances. Find out what things he needs to do tactically. Do all the employeers in that country require a certification he will need to get? Are there professional organizations that he should be join or conferences that he should be attending for networking? All companies are afraid of hiring people because of the cost of getting rid of them. Can he go through a contractor or get an intership at a prospective employeer?

Tactically: The best thing in the world is a custom tailored shirt. You might get him a gift certificate to go to a custom shirt maker in whatever country he is in. It makes a world of difference in confidence. The thing that guys dont think about are shoes- is he wearing some kind of black sneaker as a shoe? Interviewers do notice.

Also he may want to take some kind of a part time job while he is looking. Even if it is just a pizzeria, it keeps him busy and makes him feel worthwhile. And he gets some commaderie at work.
