Some of them I have been attracted to and some of them i knew quite well and really liked them. I don't know what is wrong with me though, the thought of commitment and dating someone scares the hell out of me. I'm always thinking it would be nice to have someone, but when it comes down to it i cant even give anybody a chance. I can be a shy person which i think is holding me back from dating and talking to guys. Its got to the point that a guy who i really liked asked me out and i said no because i was scared. Is there anything i could do to make the first step towards going on dates?

I think it's not commitment you fear, but the possible loss of self. Picture what your ideal relationship looks like - the one you WANT to happen, not the one you're afraid will happen.
What do you have now that you think you'll have to give up? I think that's what you must ask yourself.
