And if you are thinking "well I do like her, I just like her friend more." That in my book means you don't like her. Because if you did you wouldn't like anyone else more. And that is not fair to her. So let her down gently and move on.
As for her friend, well that has happened to me too. And I have always chosen the moral route and just not pursued it. I am sure you have liked other girls before who didn't like you back. It's called unrequitted love. So take this to mean the same thing and just move on. Because it would just be so mean of you to pursue her friend.
