A male reader, anonymous, writes (10 May 2008):

Hey, I'm a guy in that exact situation and I know how you both feel.

Well firstly, you need to be sure that he even sees you as a viable partner. He may just be looking for someone to spend time with who doesn't pressure him or act imposingly.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with having a friend younger than you. If you like to be close, so what?

Although sexual relations would clause him as a paedophile (The legal definition is basically that you are over the age of consent and at least 5 years older than your underage partner), you don't need to rush things. If he likes you, then he'll respect your concerns.

If he doesn't let it go, then he's clearly just after your body and you should cut him off immediately. Remember that just because he's older, it doesn't mean he has any authority over you.

I love my friend, and so does she love me(NB the present tense). You're not hurting anyone, and besides, it doesn't do any harm to vary your expiriences with other people.

Just enjoy your friendship and act as you feel comfortable, and don't do anything stupid. (If you can't decide what is, then don't do anything other people would say is stupid.)

Just relax. Two years is a good length of time to decide how you feel about someone and if they're right for you.

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (2 May 2008):

If you are 14 and he is 19 then it may well be illegal for him to have a relationship with you and he may not want to risk being thought of in that way.

If you tell him you like him then he may want to cut contact for the same reason.

I would keep your feelings to yourself and just stay friends. Enjoy your crush and have sweet dreams about him instead.

Good Luck!! xx
