A male Netherlands age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Hi,

I tried anal sex for the 2nd time last week and it was protected and everything but now I freaking out that I may have a STD or something. It initially hurt the first day, but have a slight itchy feeling there every now and again but nothing else. Should I go to the doctor, or am I being too much of a hypochondriac?

Honeypie agony auntYou could try some hemroid cream first and see if that help, if not, go see a doctor. And SMART choice to use protection.

I know some people reacts to the latex and some to the lubricants, could be either of those as well. Make sure you don't use oil based lubricants with latex. I believe water based are the best. Do some research.

A female reader, dr.2.be United States +, writes (18 June 2009):

dr.2.be agony auntChances are you may not have an STD, especially if the intercourse was protected. The itching may be caused by slight tears or swollen veins in the anal opening or just inside. They may bleed when you go to the bathroom or just plain itch. These are called hemmorhoids. Nothing to be emabarrassed about as they are extremely common and can be aggravated by anal sex. There are over the counter medications you can apply to the area to relieve the itching. It should go away in about a week or so depending on how irritated it is.

You may want to see a doctor just in case. You never know and its good to be safe than sorry.

Good luck.
