At this point I don't see any problem. As the two of you work together and learn what works best for you it should happen more easily and more often.
Don't be afraid to give him feedback so he knows what is, or isn't, working. Spoken words - like, "that's good but a little firmer, please" - can be effective, or (gently and respectfully) use your hands to guide his hands, head, etc, to the get best effect.
