Is it possible to have your period still, even if you are pregnant?

A female age 36-40, anonymous writes:

i'm a little concerned. This might sound really weird, but I was wondering if any girls out there have had proper real periods when pregnant.

I was lying in bed last night and I felt like a fluttering in my belly - a very strange sensation, from what I've read it sounds similar to how women who are about 16weeks pregnant feel their babies move for the first time!!

Then that got me thinking, could I be pregnant? (we have not been using any protection as we both want children)

Thing is, I'm on my period, which came almost a week early with hardly any pain - which is VERY unusual for me as i'm usually really ill, and doubled up in pain. And every month for the last 6months my periods have been atleast 3-5days late. Last month my pain was worse than ever, and this month nothing. So my last 2 cycles have definately been odd. Any advice?

thanks xx

YummyMummy agony auntI had two periods at the very beginning of my pregnancy which led me to believe I wasn't pregnant but then I found out otherwise when I went to the doctors. If you think there is a chance you could be pregnant get yourself a test or go see your doctor who will test you.

"Fluttering" can be the first signs of a baby moving, or trapped wind, or just your body being on your period. I would get yourself tested to be sure.

so yes you could be pregnant

but 16weeks is VERY early to feel the baby move, if it was that early it would be very slight and faint
