A male United States age 22-25, anonymous writes:

Ok long story short i was over at my girlfriend's house for a labor day cookout and we were trying to try to find a place to make out in private and we got caught sneaking around by her cousins.

They told her parents and now i can't go over to her place and i don't think they'll let her come over to mine either.

My girlfriend was thinking about breaking up but i convinced her to try to keep the relationship going. We've been dating for almost a year and her parents knew we've been kissing.

Just chill and lay low for a little while.

Things will blow over.

And will go back to normal.

Try not to take it too hard.

You say you've been together a year and her parents know. So, not sure why the parents are making a big deal out of this now.

Maybe they were embarrassed because it happened during an event at their house and all their family was over? Some people get embarrassed that their kids are doing this when they are around relatives or other family. So, that could be it. And the cousins telling on you does not help. It makes the whole incident into something bigger than it is. They just over reacted is what I think. Everybody over reacted. It was just a kiss! You are a couple!

I think that if you are both on your best behaviour for a bit, and don't make a big deal out of it, you should be fine.

Just give it a little time. Relax. And don't spend too much time around your cousins anymore. They are immature and jealous.

aunt honesty agony auntMy guess is that her parents are scared that this relationship is moving to quickly when you are both still very young. Talk to your parents and tell them what happened, ask them to explain to your girlfriends parents that you where only kissing, my guess is that maybe her cousins may have added more to the story. Get your girlfriend to talk to her parents as well and ensure then that you both where not doing anything else. If you are both old enough to be in a relationship then you both should be able to talk to your parents about it as well.
