Has he told you he loves you? If not, and he wants move to be with you, i can see why you may be confused. I think you will have to work up the courage to talk to him, I think you will need to talk to him about his worries with your past, so he isn't insecure y'know?

 I'm not sure what you mean by "for the record," and it's impossible to tell what his motives are.
It's possible he wants to make up for your sad past. That's fine, but if you're not ready for him to move in with you, then say so. Be honest about how you feel about him and let him make his own decisions about how much of his life he wants to build around you.
