Is this other girl just a friend to him or something more?

So I like this guy at school, and he's super nice and sweet to me. He always says hi and smiles whenever he sees me, he texts me (even though he's apparently bad about texting people back, according to some of my friends) and I've caught him looking at me a number of times. I've seen him walking around with this other girl, who I think he's known for a long time. How should I look at his? Just friends or are they something more? I think it's just been to and from classes. I also heard today that this girl is supposedly having some kind of an affair with his cousin who has a girlfriend. I don't know if this is true though.
