A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi, this is really embarrassing but i have a "feminine problem!". i rlly hope this isnt too graphic and im trying to make it as clean as possible! well yesterday i slept over a friends house and i felt fine alll day. then that night, around 2:30am we went to bed and i went into the bathroom to change clothes and i used the bathroom. there was no burning sensation when i urinated. i wiped myself and it started to burn but quickly subsided so i ignored it and put my pjs on. the pj shorts i put on were very loose so i left the underwear i had on that day. i noticed a very small amount of slimy discharge that is similar but not identical to what i usually get daily. i went to lay down and my "lady bits" started itching and becoming very umcomfortable so, like an idiot, i scratched and the outer part of my vagina became very inflamed and there is a scratch outside the opening. i took the underwear off and the uncomfortable feeling went away all night after i put some cold water on my hand and patted "down there". in the morning there was a little pain but again i patted with water and it was fine. later on in the day there was still no burning sensation when urinating and there isnt now. but earlier i decided to see what was going on and "examine myself". my finger came out with pieces of what looked like wet toilet paper! i quickly got in the shower and washed out thoroughly. the inside of my vagina had small bumps inside where it usually feels relatively smooth. about 3 hours later i checked again and there is no more toilet paper looking stuff but things still seem red and are sore. no burning or itching unless i touch it vigorously and even then it isnt that uncomfortable. ive never had one but it sounds a lot like a yeast infection to me! im planning on telling my mother tomorrw if it isnt cleared up, but i really need help on wht this cld be!! please help! thank you!!!

p.s. i have not recently changed soap, detergent, fabric softener, etc and i am due to get my period in about a week

chigirl agony auntI think you need to tell your mom and go see your doctor.. Not that this has to be serious, it is just that if you try self treatment you might treat yourself for the wrong thing and still experience discomfort. To me it sounds like an infection, but not a urinary one or a yeast infection. The urinary infection, as you seem to be aware of, burns and stings like no tomorrow and causes pains. A typical yeast infection itches like you had 30 mosquito bites down there and you swear you could orgasm if you were just able to itch it... What I am saying is that it could very well be a yeast infection, but not one that Im familiar with. So I am not sure if the regular treatments you can buy without prescription will help you. Also the strange looking discharge and the bumps you describe don't match up with what I am familiar with (and now Im only talking personal experience here, I am no doctor).

So, talk to your mom, these problems are common feminine issues that happen from time to time, and your mother has without doubt experienced problems down there herself and will understand what you need. I recommend your mother taking you to the doctor/gynecologist.

yeast infections can be brought on by anything, including stress or tight clothing.

you could try visiting your local drug store or chemist, and purcahse antifungal cream over the counter, that might help.

or best thing is to visit your doctor.

person12345 agony auntWe can give some great advice on here, but this sounds like something you'd need to ask your doctor. We couldn't possibly know. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your body! No harm can come from seeing a doctor, but harm can come from ignoring something.
