*If you forgot to take the at the right time (read the prospect)
*If you are having diarrhea or vomits, as they may keep you from properly absorbing the medication
*If you are taking another medication(antibiotics, for example) it can mess with your hormonal balance. Once again, read the prospect
Enjoy!

For what it's worth, my g/f and I have been using the pill as our only form of birth control for about a year now and I can attest that it has been 100% effective.
Also, for the record, we split the cost of the pill, which seems the least I can do considering the fact that she's the one dealing with the physical side-effects of taking it.

The pill is so close to 100% reliable as to be fine by itself AS LONG AS YOU DON'T FORGET TO TAKE IT!!!
That 99% statistic comes about because its easy to forget one. If you forget one be very careful and use a condom until it's reliable again (which will depend on the type of pill and where in your cycle you are).

A
reader, anonymous, writes (9 November 2007): I'm pretty sure the pill is about 99% effective, which obviously would mean that the 1 bonk in 100 could get you pregnant, so a condom as well would reduce that risk to very near zero, unless it split during that 1 in 100 encounter.
2 condoms is not recommended either, because friction could cause both of them to split.
