Is my present really that insulting?

So my friend is getting married soon and I decided to make her a couple of soft toys as part of her wedding present (I've become quite good at soft toy making). I had a look through my pattern books and saw this really cute elephant pattern I just had to make. I decided to adapt it so that the elephants were getting married - one in a wedding dress and one in a tux.

I show my sister and she says that the present is really insulting, and I can't give it to them at all. She says that the bride will assume I'm calling the couple elephants. That really wasn't my intention - I just thought the elephant pattern was the best. What do you guys think? Do I give the present or do I start over?

I can think of worse presents. It sounds really sweet but of course if they ARE a big couple, maybe steer away from making large animals like elephants, just in case. I agree with the other posters, incl it's much more fun than a boring old toaster & elephants are beautiful animals! Having someone make something for you is a really great pressie! xx

Elephants are loving affectionate animals & often display affection by nuzzling, intertwining their trunks etc .. and they're often depicted on cards in this way - i have a lovely card with a family of elephants all cuddled up! I think it's a lovely present, especially the fact that you have made it yourself! They are also beautiful intelligent animals and they're not fat, just tall, large & heavy! I think it would be more insulting if you sewed two fat little pigs (if the couple have weight problems but having said that even piglets are cute!) The only caveat would be, as the others suggested, if the couple have weight issues, they might take it the wrong way (depending on how much they know about elephants). This is just your sister's perspective anyhow. If the couple have weight issues, maybe just adapt the pattern and don't do elephants/piglets, or anything else that has been associated with largeness of size! A couple of elegant swans might be nice, or proud tigers!! Ok I'm getting carried now but you know what I mean .. Good luck and enjoy the wedding!

If they are an overweight couple I would say it might be offensive. To be on the safe side can't you choose something else that is a little more graceful?! But at the end of the day its your decision

person12345 agony auntIf your friend or her fiancee are truly "elephants" or self-conscious about their size I'd steer away from it. Otherwise it sounds very cute!

baddogbj agony auntSounds like a cute and thoughtful wedding present - better than a toaster. I'd steer away from it only it the couple have reason to be self conscious about their size.
