I do not live in a small town but the area I live in does have some historical streets and even their own local paper so there is some community in a senseI really enjoy Christmas and I actually wrote to the paper about having a holiday decorating contest and they said it was a great idea and to basically create the announcement which I did. I place a gift certificate as the award although I am unsure who will pay for that. If the paper doesn't it would have to be on me since it is my idea.Despite that, my mother mentioned it sounds like a cute idea and all but a lot of people barely decorate around here now..a flyer is suddenly going to make them do it and for a gift certificate? And she said also people are concerned that if they decorate too nicely, they could be robbed.It kind of brought me down in a sense because maybe she is right and it seems kind of silly and childish.Should I still send in my flyer and post it around the neighborhood? Is it a silly idea?

CREATIVITY is never never a bad idea...the world needs people like you. CREATE OR DESTROY...you stick with your idea and make it even bigger...but get like minded people to help you!! invest their ideas make it really colourful...victorian christmas scenes ,fancy dress, street party...mulled wine, chestnuts. Get local business to invest, they could advertise . children could do a street theatre christmas scene....go to the local art schools, theatre schools, get support, get locals. You will find that choreographers etc may well be willing to work with people to design a street performance and to do this all for free simply because they enjoy it.
However you could let your great idea just slip into the wind and wait for the destructive energy to take it's place. Bring your community together involve the young the old the rich and the poor..the happy and the miserable.
If your going do it, do it BIG !!!!!!!GOOD LUCK :) COLOUR THE WORLD IN RAINBOWS.
