writes: I'm worried about on of my friends let's call him mike, he is planning to protest against westboro he told me he was going to wear a costum and offend the westboro pricketers with anything he will think of but on of them he is planning on dancing with the song "f** the pain away" an others he wants to drive them away and make them leave he doesn't want people to hear westboros hate(he isn't gay he just hates generalizations of a group) the question I'm asking is is he going to far for with what he believes in? will he be arrested for this? reader, anonymous, writes (13 November 2010): Westboro Baptist Church is known for spreading hate speech, but they still have First Amendment rights, just the same as your friend. As long as he isn't on private property, isn't threatening any one with violence, he has a First Amendment right to protest.
However, he should consider what message he's spreading by his actions. Is what he's doing really expressing that Westboro is wrong, or are his actions saying he's immature? Hopefully he'll come up with a more effective way to speak his mind other than dancing to Peaches.
