you're so young and im not saying to young to know what love is im sure you know what you are feeling but two years is a long time for someone your age to wait for someone else. Personally I think it's ok to call him but not everyday, you want to give him an oppurtunity to call you sometimes this way you know if he's thinking about you too it's perfectly fine to keep him as a friend but don't close your eyes to meeting new people because he's a young man who Im sure will start meeting new people sooner or later and in two years when he come back if niether of you started a serious relationship and still want to give your relationship a try than that would be great but I say don't wait on him without dating anyone else because over two years at your age a lot can change and you don't want to end up wasting time waiting for him and he ends up meeting someone else
