Is it possible to get Herpes by skin to skin contact.

I only slept with one guy and he swears he tested negative.

I have hugged other people but it was friendly hugs, nothing sexual.

I am so confused because it was a full on outbreak for me a couple of weeks after I had sex with the guy.I tested negative two weeks before that. How could he test negative.

Any ideas would be welcome

If you were clean before him, he lied. That simple.

I'm not an expert, but I have heard that herpes tests are really not very reliable.

Also, I think it's possible that he's a carrier but doesn't exhibit symptoms.

He gave me genital herpes.

He told me that he tested negative. His exact words were I am clean. God knows where you got it from....

Most routine STD testing does not test for Herpes. People have to take extra steps to get that test.

Just wait until Big Pharma comes up with some way to make a buck off routine Herpes testing. A real cure, a drug to prevent the spread of it, etc. You can bet the medical establishment will suddenly see fit to start routine testing for Herpes THEN.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (13 April 2016):

Herpes is a very common thing - most of the adult population get cold sores which is HSV 1. I don't know very much about genital herpes (HSV2).

I think the worst part about herpes is the fact it is so contagious and no symptoms need to be present for it to be spread. So maybe he didn't know he had it? Or maybe he's a typical guy, who knows.

A female reader, Honeypie United States +, writes (13 April 2016):

Honeypie agony auntThis is from the CDC's website:

"Herpes symptoms can occur in both male and female genital areas that are covered by a latex condom. However, outbreaks can also occur in areas that are not covered by a condom so condoms may not fully protect you from getting herpes."

"How is genital herpes spread?

You can get herpes by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has the disease.

Fluids found in a herpes sore carry the virus, and contact with those fluids can cause infection. You can also get herpes from an infected sex partner who does not have a visible sore or who may not know he or she is infected because the virus can be released through your skin and spread the infection to your sex partner(s)."

"The average incubation period after exposure is 4 days (range, 2 to 12)"

"Most individuals infected with HSV-1 or HSV-2 are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms that go unnoticed or are mistaken for another skin condition. As a result, 87.4% of infected individuals remain unaware of their infection."

http://www.cdc.gov/std/herpes/stdfact-herpes.htm

So I would surmise that you CAN get Herpes from skin contact DURING sex, but I don't think from hugging a person.

Are you really sure he DID test negative? Or is there a possibility that he lied?

I have never had Herpes, so I can only go by what I can read about it.

What TYPE of Herpes were you diagnosed with?
