Ok - does anyone know of a way of finding out the telephone number of someone who has called my mobile - As I didn't answer it, it was listed as a missed call (no number). It wouldn't normally bother me, but I was getting ready for bed @ 1.30am when I noticed my phone flashing. It flashed at least 3 times that I noticed. I had my phone on silent so didn't notice it immediately and as I went to answer it, it rang off. No one has ever called me that late before - ever. I have been having a few problems with my boyfriend (nothing major) and wonder if he is mucking about on someone else's phone. For what reason I don't know. If it is to scare me, I will give him what for!!! In some ways though, I don't want to ask him about it to see if he brings it up! Or I have an ex-friend who always used to withold her number who recently turned nasty on me. I am inclined to think it is my boyfriend though.

I live in a rural area and am in the house on my own tonight and this call has put me all on edge.

I am curious to know who called, but don't know how to find out. Any tips gratefully received!!!

hey i called my cell phone provider and they would not disclose anything aswell. they said in order to trace number the person must be on the line for 30 seconds. the women on the other line threatened me to stay away from her man and that she knew where i lived! i am scared too cause i live alone with my sister, but my advice is talk to your closest neighbors to watch out for you too. if it occurs again i will contact the police but i may invest in survelence cameras. i may be extreme but my familys life means alot and you dont know what crazy people are capable of.

i can help you as i work in the sector of force,,, you may email me if you wish i will need your number to co search the network with date and time of the call. i will then provide you the number that rang you. there is no other way to get them other wise it would be a waste of time withelding a number.

There is a way, Your mobile phone provider can find out,but they cannot tell you due to data protection,

call your mobile phone provider and ask them,

I know someone in Vodafone UK, who said if i asked her, she would give me all bar the last 4 numbers altho the people working for Vodafone can see the full number,

Some mobile providers will refuse point blank that they can do it, ( to cover their own back, and they dont normally train staff to show them how to do the process needed)

willywombat agony auntYou are working yourself into a tiz over very little here. It could have been a wrong number, a call centre, sales call from you mobile service provider, a drunken friend calling for a chat... the list is endless. ASK the people you suspect it might be then just LET IT GO!! Stop obsessing over something as minor as this.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (9 December 2006):

Maybe it was one of those bloody call centres. They can call up randomly and at any time 24/7. I've had flaming texts as well. Just turn your phone off when you go to bed, then no-one will bother you! That's what I do, if there is an emergency then someone will turn up at your door. That's what happened in the olden days anyway before mobile phones :)

no definitely not, or there would be no point in them, sorry, however if you're worried about it, you can contact the police, i think they can break into records or something and trace numbers, but it would have to be something serious(obviously):)

AngelofLove agony auntYou cannot find out a witheld number.

Put it down to one off event as it could have been wrong number, if genuine cannot be that important otherwise they would have called back.

BT would only investigate harassessent calls if you were receiving them constantly, which this is not the case so relax.

kellyO agony auntHi Anom,

I'm not sure if there is a way one can find out, i'm guessing there might not be.

What i would advise is for u not to bother urself about that. I also see witheld numbers on my phone sometimes. I know that you are anxious to know but it could be anyone really. Just be patient and wait.if it is important the person will call back.

Take care now. kelly,
