Bev Conolly agony auntYes, you're normal, and if your mates kid you about it, they're probably feeling a bit jealous that you look more manly than they do.

Don't worry, some men are very hairy, and some are not. Try to accept that this is "normal" for you, and don't be concerned about body hair unless the full Moon makes you grow fangs as well, OK?

A female reader, camille United Kingdom +, writes (8 June 2006):

camille agony auntThere's no normal or not normal. You may have hair before other boys and some remain pretty hairless, but there's certainly nothing wrong with you! Don't worry. If there is a great amount of hair and you don't like it, maybe wait and see. It's early and so not wise to do anything about it just yet. Once you start shaving, waxing, plucking there's no turning back and that will be something you'll have to continue with frequently and if you don't may make the hair stronger and thicker, so hold off for now and wait for the other boys to catch you up. If people are teasing you, turn it into your advantage as you must be growing up pretty fast and producing lots of male hormones/testosterone. Say it's signs of being a man! :) Some people will be just jealous!

A male reader, Dr T Ireland +, writes (8 June 2006):

Alright Man..chill, this is all natural - your body is going through a phase of change that will last for a while. Pop along to your Doctor, dont be in the least embarrassed - your Doctor wont be - and have a chat. I know you feel self conscious about this but your Dr can advise you on the best course of action.

PS tell your mates that its a surplice of testosterone and it has made more than your hair grow!!

Dont worry about it, its a stage that all males go through. It is completely natural but can vary slightly between different people.
