writes:please dont laugh but i need serious advice.i really really fancy this guy ive been working with a week - hes new and ive done loads for him to help him and we sooo click and laugh and joke-its not like being at work.heres the problems... my ex from 7 months ago has left me severly financially damaged for the next 4 years - im clearing it but ashamed of it.this guy's wife left him in august after 10 years but a girl he vaguely knew from the past gave him her number and now they're casually dating.i dont know why but i think about him all the time -hes called me the last few evenings because ive helped him with work. its none of my business but does he sound emotionally ready for dating? we have spoke loads in a matter of days and he sounds very raw and angry. im not going to do anything and if he stays with the other girl, good luck i still want to be his friend but i dont understand my feelings - i dont want to be hurt again help this is so messy

reader, anonymous, writes (27 November 2009): In my opinion, as a complete stranger I would say leave it, it does sound messy and you could get hurt again. We always seem to be attracted and drawn to relationships that are complicated and have a number of problems connected to it. Find a new guy with no strings, no complications, and just forget about this other guy, you've only known him a week!

It is too soon for him really. This other girl might just be a rebound, especially of his wife left him and he's still raw. Focus on yourself for the moment, and just be a good friend to him.
