Is he just a good friend, a potential boyfriend... or gay?

A female , *opefulgracewm4444 writes:

I think I'm in love with my best guy friend. I have had feelings on and off for him since the 5th grade and I am currently a 12th grader. I have never liked him as greatly as I do now though.

My dilemma is that when I go to college next year I do not want a boyfriend or any strong connections to my high school life. I want a fresh start.

On the other hand, I really think I'm in love with my best guy friend. I have no idea if he returns my feelings. He's really hard to read and can be moody like he has PMS. Some of my friends also think he's gay because he's never had a girlfriend and he acts kinda like a metrosexual. So my question is, do you think it's worth it to express my true feelings to my best guy friend or should I just let it go?

A male reader, Mr.Ed +, writes (23 December 2005):

Mr.Ed agony auntI think absolutely you should tell him how you feel. I think that his response will not only satisfy your curiosity about him loving you but you can answer the question about being gay. Either way the coolest thing I've ever heard is "Better to have lost in love; than to have never loved at all". In addition to that Boys to Men mature differently and he may not be gay he might be a late bloomer especially in high school. So try to understand his point of view when he answers your question. Good Luck. Ed
