A reader, anonymous, writes (11 November 2008):

Drug use, especially cocaine (crack or powder) and meth change a person completely. They will lie to your face, steal from you, use you in anyway they can. They will do whatever they have to get high! The first thing a drug user loses is his/her conscience! It's nothing personal...it is what it is...survival, and to someone addicted to drugs getting high IS their survival! They live to use and use to live!!!

I know all this from my own experience and those I've watched die! There isn't much you can do unless the person wants to get help. And that usually takes letting them hit bottom. Enabling them is the worst thing you can do. It prevents them from hitting thier bottom and prolongs their misery. The only thing you can do is confront him and let him know you care but can't watch him destroy his life. Cut ties and hope it will bring him to a bottom, and he will get help.

Good Luck and God Bless
