I broke a tooth once on dried fruit so I think eating ANY dried fruit is bad.

Eating too much of anything is bad. Too much of a good thing really can be a bad thing.
Why not have a selection of snacks that are lower in sugar such as celery sticks, carrot sticks, spring onions (cut them up and keep the in the fridge for a couple of days). Or, savoury snacks like twiglets are pretty low calorie and low fat. Maybe try drinking a pint of water when you next feel the need to snack. If you are having 3 good meals a day there should be no need to snack.
If you want to lose weight it will be gradual reduction in calorie intake and increase in energy output i.e. exercise.

Dried fruit is difficult for your body to digest. Most doesn't contain ANY vitamin C which is the important vitamin we usually associate with fresh fruit. Some dried fruits are a good source of iron, and others contain beta-carotene (which is, or turns into, vitamin A and is also a possible cancer inhibitor if you believe the latest research).
Dried fruit is also high in sugar, but generally preferable to eating loads of biscuits or sweets. It's not ideal in large quantities but great for a snack to replace, for example, a packet of crisps or a few chocolate biscuits. Dried fruit is also high in fibre.
You have to remember that eating one dried fruit is the equivalent, in sugar terms, of eating the whole undried fruit - but not giving you the vitamin C or the moisture.
I wasn't aware that dry fruit contained much fat as you seem to suggest, but I could be wrong.
