Fancy yourself as an agony aunt? Add your answer to this question! A

Its so easy for the guys - impregnate the woman and walk away.. the woman is left with 9months of carrying a child, the birth the looking after etc.... and the best she can expect is a bit of maintenance money to help with costs.
So yes... birth control IS REALLY NECESSARY!!!
A

Birth Control and Condoms are a must!!!! You never know when a condom could fail, I take birth control and use condoms and have no problems. You're playing dangerously if you're not using both.

Sorry if this seems sexist, but being a baby's daddy is whole lot easier than being a baby's mommy. We have the whole pregnancy thing, then there's nursing, then there's the tendency for baby daddies to leave most of the baby tending to the baby mommy.
I know one dad who is proud of the fact that he only ever changed one diaper in his entire life. That's the kind of baby daddy any baby mommy would want to throttle, it seems to me.
Then we have HIV.... and HPV.... and syphilis and chlamydia and gonorrhea and and and...
And before we forget, HIV isn't spread solely through sexual contact. It can be spread through sharing needles. Sigh. There are SOOOO many good reasons to wear condoms. So so many, yet you ask 'is birth control really necessary?'....
And to your girl. If she doesn't want to have sex, she doesn't want to have sex. If this is a problem for you, then maybe you are with the wrong girl. Seriously, if you can't wait and she doesn't want to, I don't see much common ground to keep you together.
Here are the scary statistics on birth control, for your information:
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control//birth-control-effectiveness-chart-22710.htm
Statistically, there are 15-25 pregnancies per year in 100 women who use only condoms as their birth control. Doesn't seem quite so effective as it should, does it?

Well, if you do not want to be a baby's daddy, then yes, birth control pills or injections are the best insurance against undesired pregnancy. Even those are not 100 percent, but quite good. Condoms are less reliable.

For many women, yes. Condoms aren't as effective, they could slip off, or get a tear. So what if your girlfriend is coming up with excuses? If she doesn't want to have sex with you, then she doesn't want to. Two years is quite a while though, maybe you should ask her...maybe she wants to wait until marriage but doesn't know how to tell you.
