Would it be just because of his age or would there be other factors? Thanks.

Thank you Juls for your response. No things have not always been like they are now, and I am certain he has no erection problems. Unfortunately when I asked him why he isn't interested any more he said he didn't know.

You have a problem. As a 40 years-old male friend of mine recently put it: "You know, the bottom line for all guys is their penis."
If he's not interested in sex anymore when he's got a good looking (I'll assume you're good-looking) young guy available, then your relationship is damaged. You need to ask him why.
If things have always been that way, he could have erection problems (that's not likely, he's not really ancient yet), but if he enjoyed sex before, then age is not the factor here.
