writes: We are both in our fifties. We've not had any sexual relations for many years. But we were madly in love once upon a time. We still care a lot. But the lack of communication, constant and bickering arguments and bickering is stressing us both out. I'm really depressed. Will welcome any suggestions.

Hi,
It seems to me that you are(both)trapped in a situation with its root in the past but with an unrewarding present and an unsatisfactorily future outlook. Staying together sometimes just become a habit.Maybe it is simply time to accept that you both have to make a break and move on with your lives separately and hopefully for a more rewarding relationship with someone else.
