In love with a girl from childhood

i have known a girl since she was 8 and i was 11, she was a friend to my younger sis, i liked her so much but due to 5 years difference in academic years and cos we were young i just let her be. now she is 16 and just out of high school but am 19 and in the university, becos i still have this feeling till now, i let her know my intentions concerning my love 2wards her. i think she likes me, but do u think we can work things out?
