I don't know how to swim either! But...there's absolutely NO SHAME in not knowing how to do so. Just get it out there--let her know! Maybe she'll be willing to teach you!

Tisha-1 agony auntLook at this from her perspective. She keeps asking a good friend to go swimming and the good friend keeps refusing. Maybe she's wondering if you like her.

Rather than assume a negative reaction, why not tell her the truth and ask her for help? Most friends are supportive and want the best for you. If she makes fun and isn't supportive, well, then, maybe she's not all that good a friend, is she?

You are missing out on something because of a self-imposed fear. Is that a sensible thing to do?
