Hi

I am pregnant, me and my partner have decided to call her scarlett if she is a girl, or oliver if he is a boy. i admit i was shocked when i found out i was pregnant, but me and my partner are very happy and more in love than ever before which is nice.

thing is im terrified of giving birth, im absolutley petrified...people have told me how painful it is and its scaring the hell out of me, i know it will be worth it in the end, but can any females who have given birth tell me what it felt like?

i know every birth is different but i have never been so scared, im only 18 years old and its going to be the first time i have given birth. also im a bit wary of my boyfriend being next to me when i give birth because he might be put off by me...im a big worrier and i just wanted some advice.

Carrot2000 agony auntIf you're past 20 weeks, try prenatal yoga. I've heard good things about it and a yoga instructor I worked with says it can help reduce the amount of time you're in labor.

are you crazy lonely two? This girl is scared, why would you try to scare her further? Look OP, my epiural went wrong beacuse I have an odd spine. The anesthesiologist tried a few times with negative results, so we moved on to another pain management method. I was not paralyzed because I told them after the needle went in that something was wrong. And an epidural should be the last option anyway because it is serious and after labor you cannot move for a while which is rather scary. Just listen to your body like many here have said. You will be fine!

People love to share horror stories and believe me, I have a couple doosies, but people who have had trouble like I have are rare. More often than not it goes fine and everyone is ok. Don't let people get to you. It's like some sort of sadistic game to watch other people suffer like they (or their spouse) did.

the calmer and more relaxed and comfortable you are - the easier it will be. Go into labour not expecting pain and who knows, maybe you won't. :) My mother gave birth twice without any medication or any pain - she actually couldn't understand all the fuss the other women were making, but she wasn't taught to be scared of labour, she just let her body get on with it and tried to be as relaxed as possible. :)

C. Grant agony auntI strongly recommend childbirth classes. The more you know what to expect, the easier things will be for you. And in particular learn about the options for pain control. For our third child my wife had an epidural, and the difference was quite miraculous for her.

Don't worry about him being put off. It's an incredible experience.

I'm one of those horror story people who had terrible deliveries, so Im not gonna share my deliveries. I have had friends who have had 45 minute labors and virtually no pain. The more psyched out you get yourself the worse it will be. There are so many options for pain management during labor. Do your homework and decide your 1st, 2nd, & 3rd choices for relief. (personal experience). I would also suggest taking a tour of the hospital where you will be delivering. Being comfortable in your environment will really help you! And make a birth plan. You can find templates online. But don't expect 90% to actually go the way you planned it. Stuff happens and you have to be ready to role with it because everything happening is for yours and the baby's benefit.

Your partner will not in any way be turned off by you! The most amazing thing that he has ever encountered is going to be happening right in front of him! He can stay by your head if you like. He can hold your legs and halp ypu push. I had my boyfriend be my breathing coach so he was right in my face the whole time. He relaxed me and felt reallt involved in the delivery too.

Youre gonna be fine. Congratulations! And bask in the spoilage youre gonna be getting!
