writes: Should I have sex without two forms of contraception? I'm sixteen and have been in a relationship for 5 months with my boyfriend. We so far have used a condom and I am on the pill but he recently found out that I was on it (I never told him) and wants to try having sex without a condom. I'm curious myself as to whether it will feel any different but I'm extremely worried about getting pregnant. The pill is 99% effective so I'm wondering why its not effective to 1% and how many people of out what will get pregnant even when using the pill? Thanks!

How long have you been on the pill?
The pill is a very good form of contraception, but can be overpowered by certain medications, certain antibiotics for instance. Speak to your GP if you are worried about any medication you are taking.
The sex itself should not feel that much different, but that would also depend on the types of condoms you are using, ribbed, extra lubricated, etc.
Well if there is a 1% chance of getting pregnant, then thats 1 out of 100 people. I think it is more like 99.9% effective though. Maybe you could consider different types of contraception, implant, etc.
If you are comfortable using both forms of contraception, then continue with it, safety first after all.
I am happy to see that a 16 year old girl is so sensible as to use contraception, as is her boyfriend. I hope you are happy together.
