I always feel miserable. Everyone around me is having a great time and always happy, and I'm always miserable.

I can't smile because I always look like an idiot when I do, but I don't know what has caused it but I don't know how to be happy. Can anyone help?

White Heaven agony auntEvery one may call this Depression, but it goes further than that, you are lack in your self trust...

You don't know how to be happy you don't have to go to school to learn how to be happy...

Deep, really deep in you there is the reason, just because you are focus on everyone else "happiness" it's blocking you to see yours...

Give time to your self, laugh it LOUD, and do not NEVER ever look at what people thinks of you, you said that you look like an idiot, the only way that you can say that is because when you laugh you are looking at everyone elses response, right?.. you are not giving space for your self...

There are millions of question I could ask you, as a future Psychologist I will be, but for now.. I want you to focus on finding the happiness in you.. remember there is no school for it, only your mind knows the way, let it be happy, stop looking around and be more self-approval!

TIP: Be your self, never pretend, never lie, just be your self, if you find it hard to do something, then find out why.. asking why can help you resolve many issues, however, in then end if you do not know the reasons, I suggest you a cousalling session asap...

Take Care,

A female reader, stina United States +, writes (29 August 2006):

stina agony auntYou should visit your doctor and tell him/her what's been going on. They might be able to help you figure out what's going on and/or perscribe some meds that will help you get back your normal feelings.

Until then, you could try taking St. Johns Wort. It comes in pill or capsule form and help many people to regain their sense of emotional balance. You should be able to find it at your local pharmacy or at a health food store. Here is a short blurb from Wikipedia on this herb, "In modern medicine, standardized Hypericum extract (obtained from H. perforatum) is commonly used as a treatment for depression and anxiety disorders."

Here is the link to the page:

Although it doesn't work for everyone, I think maybe you should try it out until you can get to your doctor.

Also, have you ever gone to a chiropractor. All of the nerves that are in your spine regulate practically everything in your body. Regular adjustments help maintain the body in pretty much every aspect. I have gone to a chiropractor regularly for about 7 years and it's really helped me with many problems. Perhaps there is one in your area that you can visit?

Good luck!

Depression is very common and it sounds like you've got a bad case of it but you won't feel like that forever and it will pass. I think you should seek support from your school counsellor thou(if u have 1) or any counsellor really. I had a similar problem, i was really feeling down and miserable like all the time, even on xmas and stuff. Although there were things going on around me that were helping to make me feel dowm, i tried to overlook it for a long period of months, and i ended up breaking down at school because nothing was helping. At this point i was dragged off to the counsellor and it was actually quite embarrassing. But counselling does help a hell of a lot, and it can put a whole different perspective on things, trust. Start off with a good counsellor and if it doesn't help you could talk to a parent or someone else to trust about getting more help. But it probably will. Dont worry you will smile again!!:):)

You are a human, well, and no human has been, is and will be perfect. Any body in this world has a uinique existence: special features, unique charectristics and qualification. Why miserable? Any thing wrong with physically? I don't think because you didn't mention that. Are you heart-broken? Have been dumped or cheated on? Any problem with the parents ao other family members? any thing at school or in the office? You have lost your self-esteem and detriorated into something technically known as 'self-depreciation' or 'self-ignorance'. Recognize your identity as a human being with all your possible qualities and flaws. Smile even if 'you' think it's not big deal Others might find something in it...

Ponungalungb agony auntHi. I would suggest professional help. It sounds like you are suffering from depression. It can be helped with medication and behavior therapy. Things may seem bleak and miserable, but believe me when I say there is light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck!
